Matthew 5:14-16 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” God commands Christians to be a light that everyone can see. When we got saved, we became a light, but there are a few different kinds of lights. One type of person are candles. They get saved, but then leave or they will come to church and then stop. Like a candle, these people don’t last very long. A second type would be a flashlight. They may come to church, but outside of church, no one would know that they are a Christian. Like a flashlight, they have very little light. A third type would be a spotlight. These people will serve in church and their community, but only if others can see them. A fourth type would be a car flasher. These people are here one minute, gone the next, and are back the next minute. A fifth type would be a headlight. They mean well, but they also can’t carry on a normal conversation either. The final type would be an ordinary house light. These people are normal people; do what is right; don’t let others influence them, and they are where they are supposed to be, when they are supposed to be there. These people are consistent and grounded in the Bible. If we are to be an effective witness for Christ, we need to be a normal and consistent person.
